1900s antique tweed sports suit. Tailor-made, probably of English origin.
The suit consists of two pieces: a long high-waisted, close-fitting skirt that fastens with hooks in the side front and a loose jacket fastened with hidden buttons and a belt. The jacket has a Norfolk cut and is lined with striped linen.
Sport suits for ladies became very popular at the turn of the 19th and 20th c. and were used for various activities, such as cycling, mountain hiking, shooting, golf, tennis or country walking. The jackets could either be close-fitting or loose, such as this example. In both cases a lady would still wear a sports corset underneath.
